AWG with wide range, steerable from Linux?

Post by andreas4 »

Dear Pico Team & Users,
We're looking for AWG's that we can control through Linux programmatically, preferably from ARM-based systems. PicoSource AS108 would be just great, but I can't find any Linux driver / SDK - did anybody ever create these? Otherwise, does anybody have experience with workarounds (e.g. using NDISWrapper, Wine, virtual machines)?
Oherwise, is there any other AWG with a sine range between 300kHz and 50 MHz that will talk to Linux through RS232, LAN or USB?
Thanks,
Andreas

Hi Andreas4,

Unfortunately, The only drivers created for it are the Windows drivers.

However, in my experience you may be able to get a VM running windows to work on your Linux platform. I don't know the AS108 startup procedure, but for some of our other devices, it's a bit convoluted as the software has to enumerate on the bus to find all the attached devices and their USB capbility, and then reconnect to the devices required by the user with the correct USB version, which can throw off the USB pass-thru of the VM. So, in order to get a Picoscope running on a Mac in Fusion I had to ensure that the pass-thru was transparent. A colleague had similar success running from Virtual Box on Linux.

If you want to pursue this further I would suggest sending an email FAO the RF team at support@picotech.com.

Regards,
