Impossible to create math channel

Post by Glubb »

Hello,

I have a Picoscope 4262 from à long time, three days ago I decided to use the "maths channels"... And... impossible ! It doesn't work !
See attached files :
- with only one signal in A, if I select "Invert A" and press "OK", nothing appears
- if I use the math wizard with two signals : one on A and the other one on B, and if I write just "A", immediatly I have the signal : "wrong syntax"
- with two signals one in A the other one in B, and then I select A+B and press "OK", nothing appears...

I use a 4262 with 6.6.42.2 software under Windows XP SP3.

Thanks for help.

Hi Glubb,

You can't just select the Math Channel you have to click in the checkbox to activate it.

Are you sure you wrote just A? It looks like you have the wrong syntax in your first image (looks like A* but I can't see clearly enough because your circle added presumably from Paint is obscuring what is after the A). What happens if you enter A*B ?

With your A+B Math Channel (which I can see you have selected) could you post the data file so that we can see what is going on.

In the meantime, you should upgrade the software to version 6.11 (which you can download from here: https://www.picotech.com/download/softw ... _11_12.exe) which may well fix the issue (if you do have one :D ).

Hello Gerry,

Thanks for your answer.

You know what : it's a software failure !!! :? With the 6.11 version it works fine I can do the job !

It has been a long work to install the oldest version, since on this desktop I didn't have ethernet connexion, and of course no broswer !!
I saw that the maximum frequency of the internal generator is still 20 kHz (see "Frequency response of a 4262" by Glubbein (it's me) on sept 2013...).

Sorry to say that but I don't understand how the software on the guenine CD-ROM from Picotech has such a failure.
I'm a old technician (I used to work under DOS many times ago  ), and I don't like to download sofware, I prefer CD-ROM : in case of viral problems or HDD crash, it's a very good solution to restart...
So is it possible to have the 6.11 on a CD-ROM (or the 6.6) ?

Anyway, the 4262 is a nice device : not very expensive, very small, and quite powerfull.

Regards.

Glubb

Hi Glubb,

Yes, the PicoScope 4262 is popular with users working with Audio, so a 20kHz limit on the design of the Signal Generator is useful to many users working within the standard specified audio bandwidth of 20kHz. Of course, for professional audio (e.g. Recording equipment), the bandwidth and dynamic range are typically higher than that of the PicoScope 4262, but then these users will be typically using data acquisition devices and generators designed specifically for that market.

The software on the genuine CD-ROM is/was the same as the software on the website for download, and any reasonably complex software can never be guaranteed to be 100% free of errors. We stopped sending CD's with our products some time ago, however I will see what we can do regarding sending a CD of PicoScope 6.11.12.

Hello Gerry,

Thanks for your answer.

I agree with you about the limit of 20 kHz, but, as you say, it's intersting to test audio-devices at higher frequency (until about 35 kHz) to be shure that there is no oscillations, sometimes you have surprises
I also have an audio analyzer (an old AP sys One) that I succesfully repair. It's a very good device, with many tests but the resolution is poor, interface with the user is old, and sometimes it's very slow. The 4262 is very powerfull for spectral analysis and some mesurements, and maths channels is very powerfull too :D

Since I'm don't undersand very well software, I don't know where the failure comes from. Software on my CD is : R6.6.42, older than the 6.11
If you can find a CD with the 6.11 sofware it would be very fine.
I will come back here in two weeks to see if your research was succesful or not...

Thanks for your help.

Have a nice week.

Regards

Glubb

Hi Glubb,

Having looked into this, our CD burn machine no longer supprts the older images. So I've uploaded an image of 6.11.12 to cloud storage which you can download from here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1J6nY6P ... sp=sharing

Note there shouldn't be any tampering or corruption of the data to worry about, but just to completely put your mind at rest the MD5 checksum for the file is:
aaea17442a1c90c900fbf2a29a65bef3
(you can run the file through an MD5 checksum tool to verify its integrity)
