Overhead time for setup changes

Post by Franzmann »

Hi,
is there a list of required overhead times for different setup changes?

I use the PicoScope 5444D with API-functions in C++ mostly in block mode. I've measured the duration of the ps5000aRunBlock-function. The results vary between 6ms and 90ms depending on the setup of the previous run. The setup for the measured runs are identical. It would be very helpful for my application to know the overhead times, which are required for different setup changes (voltage ranges, adc resolution, timebase, activated channels).

Hi Franzmann,

If theses variations are in the time it takes to acquire the data, then, unfortunately, the variations that you are seeing are not related to the different setups. They are mostly the uncertainty of the time it takes for the computer and PicoScope to establish a USB communications channel and transfer the data. It can take anywhere form 5ms to 10's of ms just to establish the USB comms link, which is, unfortunately, just the nature of USB.
