How not to damage the oscilloscope?

Post by kreizas »

Hi,

I'll be receiving my first oscilloscope in a few days, the 2204A and I just want to make sure I understand its limitations correctly. The input range according to the specifications is up to 20V and the overvoltage protection is up to 100V. I am using a 30V bench power supply. I won't be able to measure the signal if its voltage is more than 20V, but to burn the oscilloscope I need 100 volts, am I right? Am I correct that I won't be able to damage it with that power supply?

Thanks

Hi,
Yes you are correct. And if you use the scope with a scope probe set on x10 you can measure upto 200V (dc+peak).
But these have no CAT rating so DO NOT measure mains referenced circuits.
