16bit streaming mode 62,5 MS/s @ 60 MHz- 5k or 6k Series

Post by mh188231 »

Hello
I am currently looking into the different models of the PicoScope 5000 (with MSO, which I need for the 16bit) and 6000 Series. I got a bit confused with the different versions of the series so here the question:

My use case is longer continuous measurements, so block mode isnt an option due to the setup time between blocks. Do I understand it right, that it should be possible with both series to stream continuous measurements with a 16bit resolution (one channel) and a samplerate of 62,5 MS/s for a signal of ~50MHz? And does that work for both 2CH and 4CH versions or only for the 4CH version? Also, can I stream that fast with the SDK on USB3 with the 5000 series?

I understand the additional limitations for the 5000 series are:

In 16-bit mode, bandwidth reduced to 60 MHz and rise time increased to 5.8 ns.
On ±10 mV range, hardware resolution reduced by 1 bit in 12-bit mode, 2 bits in 14 to 16-bit modes.

Does the 16Bit bandwith limitation also apply to the 5242D MSO with a 60MHz bandwith to begin with?

For a bit of background, I am looking into mA range measurements using a shunt resistor and would like to have a resolution in the range of 20-30MHz, which leaves most DMMs out of the scope. This brought me to the picoscope because of its 16bit mode as well as existing publications with a similar usecase using (unfortunately not specifically named) models from the 6000 series.

Thanks a bunch

16 bit mode is only available on a single channel with the 5000 series devices, and the 6000 series are 8 bit only.

I would suggest contacting support@picotech.com to discuss you requirements in full detail and the team will be able to advise on suitable options.
