Help - trying to understand how to use 2204A

Post by Lawrence »

I haven't used an oscilloscope since tech school, back in 1969. They seemed easy back then. This is a very powerful unit. I am trying to measure dirty electricity at my home in Edmonton Alberta Canada (60 Hz). I made a voltage divider circuit to reduce the input voltage to less than 20 VAC so it wouldn't go over range, and am using the probe at x 10. There are so many settings I am not sure I am using the right ones. I have attached a trace, with hope that someone on this forum can give me a few clues as to what may be wrong with my settings etc.

Or perhaps to put the question a bit differently:
What Picoscope settings would you recommend to measure dirty electricity on a 60 Hz house circuit?

Have you looked at this post

Be aware that measuring on the mains voltage is dangerous.
A voltage divider circuit with resistors wont protect you against hazardous voltages.
