TA018 Current Clamp inconsistent

Post by injb »

I'm using a TA018 current clamp probe and I've noticed that I get different readings depending on the angle of the wire going through the clamp. If I twist it a little this way and that, I can get changes of around 20% in the current reading. The clamp is fully closed around the wire all the time

Is that normal? And if so, how do I know which reading to trust? Should I fiddle with it until I get the highest reading?

Thanks.

Tough crowd!

Would it help anyone to answer my question if I provided more info? Would screenshots help?

Thanks!

The wire will need to go through the centre of the clamp perpendicular to the plane for best accuracy.

What current are you measuring, and is this with a PicoScope? If so a psdata file would be useful to take a look at.
