Signals 'stop advancing' across screen

Post by terrypin »

Hopefully this schematic will make my question clear:

I'm using my 2205A with PicoScope 6.11.10.1540, the recommended last version for an XP PC.

I set up the software in Single (or Repeat) Mode, with a timebase of 2s/div (20s full screen).

I start the run and quickly press the trigger button. The result at first appears OK ... but when the signals reach half way across they stop moving rightwards and instead the left half effectively moves backward! So the trigger pulse disappears off the left edge.

How do I set it up to get a fully inclusive display as shown above please?

Looking back through my files I found a screenshot apparently showing that I have achieved this some months ago!

Here are three PSDATA files and a PSSETTINGS file which might help:

(This issue may be related to the one I sent directly to you by email on Monday, 'Persistent crashing of PicoScope 6'. Yesterday I used the Repair tool of Add/Remove Programs on PicoScope 6 and there seems some improvement.)

The trigger is only valid after 5 sec of starting the capture.
so start capturing wait about 10 sec an then trigger.

or set your trigger diamond at the start of the trace.
If you want to trigger directly after starting the trace.

Thanks Benno. So, assuming it’s in Single mode, am I right that the program waits until it reaches the point at which the trigger is set, usually 50%, and if the trigger condition is not met at that instant it stops displaying until the condition is met?

Wouldn’t it be more intuitive if it just continued, like a regular ‘scope?

BTW, even when it is streaming steadily I’ve noticed a brief pause at that trigger point. What is it doing at that time?

Although there has been a definite improvement since I upgraded the PC (albeit still under XP), I'm still interested in hearing from PicoTech on whether the files I included in my original post a week ago have provided any insights about the problems please.

P.S. Why am I shown with 'Posts: 0'?

It will only draw the rest of the trace when the trigger condition is met. That is what you have asked for by setting the scope up on this way.

If you just want to collect a screen of data at the time you want, you need to use Tools->Alarms and set the alarm for Capture to StopAfterCapture as used in the attached psdata file. Then all you need to do is start the capture manually by pressing Go.

Thanks Martyn, I'll try that today.

And the question I raised about the site?
"P.S. Why am I shown with 'Posts: 0'?"

After recently updating the site to newer software the post count feature stopped working, except for moderators and admins. No idea why, our team will take a look at it some stage, but I am afraid this is not high priority so won't be soon.
