Power supply startup recording. Which pico to choose?

Post by rxpu »

I want to record from 100ms to 2 seconds of a power supply start up.

Sampling rate: 10ns
It means 100 Msample/s.
If the resolution is 8 bits. It means 100Mbyte/second.

Can I record this sequence over USB 2.0 and USB3.0?

Is the memory important for this kind of data recording?

For example , If I buy the cheapest one pico2000A ,100Msample/s with 8kS memory will it do the job?. How is memory with data recording related?. Should I choose bigger memory?

I will also need a differential probe 1000V cat III. Can I connect a diff probe 1000V cat II to pico 2000A?

Best regards.

rxpu.

Hi rxpu,

2 seconds of 10ns sample intervals would be 200M samples, which you could capture in the hardware buffer of a picoscope with a 256MS waveform buffer, such as the PS3205D (see here: https://www.picotech.com/oscilloscope/3 ... c-analyzer). Unfortunately, 200MS/s streaming over USB 3.0 would be too fast for our PicoScope 6 software (and you would be limited to 150MS/s using our SDK). So, yes, the memory (on the PicoScope) is important for this much data being captured at once.

You can connect an Active Diff probe to any PicoScope.
