Problem with data dropout

Post by TimG » Sat Feb 09, 2019 9:37 pm

I am Tim. I am a consulting petroleum engineer based in Minnesota. I have built a model of an oil well that I will use for demonstration and education.

I am using a PicoLog 1216 to measure and display pressures at various points in the model. I have it connected to Honeywell 0-5psi pressure sensors. I have been testing my setup for several months and have had good results. Here is a display from yesterday.

It shows good, repeatable results. However, here is a display from today.

You can see that the data drops out every few seconds. Since all four sensors are dropping out at the same time, I assume the problem is with the central unit. One further clue: It is cold in my basement (a consequence of winter in Minnesota). Could that be a problem? I tried blowing warm air on the PicoLog unit, but that didn't help. Can you give me any advice?

Thanks,
Tim

It can also be the laptop, because of the cold.
for example the HD, depending on how cold it is.

Hi Tim,

Exactly how cold is it?

I would suggest checking the specifications of everything in your setup to see what their operating ranges are, and then comparing that against the actual temperature.

Gerry,

It's in the mid-50s (F). I don't leave my laptop down there; I only take it down when I want to hook it up to my apparatus.

An update: I ran the system again the next day, making sure all the connections were tight, and everything worked fine. I'm thinking something was simply loose the first time.

Thanks for your reply.

Tim
