does Picoscope understand encoder quadrature inputs?

Post by bhauser »

Hi,
I have a 3406D with MSO. I'm not very familiar with Picoscope so I thought I would ask the question here. I have an application where I need to look at the value of an output relative to position. The position is tracked by a digital quadrature encoder. I'd like to know if PicoScope understands quadrature and can output a position based on the A and B channel inputs. Is there a way to configure Picoscope to do this?

Thanks,

Brian

Hi Brian,

I'm assuming that the quadrature encoder gives you a bit pattern related to the absolute position of the shaft, in which case you can't display the position of the shaft, based upon the bit pattern, within the PicoScope 6 software (as there is no means to do custom decoding), but you can capture the data, export it to a CSV file, and then import it to Excel to convert the bit pattern to a position.

If you need to visualize on scope to compare with other signals etc you can decode with MCU (Arduino for example) and feed the numerical result as bit pattern into MSO digitals, which can be shown as analog graph of changing value.
