Adding time to data

Post by ashlynsmith »

I am collecting the heart rate of mussels using this software. Once saved to the desktop, how do I add a timestamp for each peak in the heart rate? I want to show a specific value for each peak in the heart rate on the graph, as differences between organisms can be just a few seconds of a difference. I would like either the X-axis to be denoted with a number and a tick mark, or have the time listed above each peak. I measured the heart rate in 10s intervals, so numbers only pop up on the x-axis every 10 seconds. However, it could only be measured in 10s intervals because of the length of time between each beat is approximately every 6 seconds. So I would just like a more specific number to be able to be shown on the x axis in 1 second intervals, or a value listed above each peak. How do I do this? Thanks

I do hope I'm proved wrong, but I suspect PicoScope does not have the mussel power for this task.

Hi ashlynsmith,

Assuming that (a) you were talking about PicoScope 6 and not PicoLog 5 or 6, and (b) you don't have too many data files to save, you can do this manually, by writing the value below each peak in the 'Notes' section, after measuring the Time interval of each peak using a Time Ruler. To measure the peaks you can zoom in to position the ruler at the peak, and then look at the value displayed in the measurements window (or hover over the ruler to display the value in a popup). The attached image shows what it would look like (note that when reloading the data file, you will need to make sure it is the same size that it was saved as, otherwise the values will be mis-aligned with the peaks).

While this isn't exactly a pearl of a solution, it shows that our software is powerful enough to get you out of a closed shell :-).
