Generate spectrum of a time based segment

Post by M@EAG »

I have a saved time based signal. Can the frequency spectrum of a defined segment of this signal be generated with the PicoScope software?

This should be possible if all measurement points beyond the segment could be removed. The segment could for example be defined by positioning two rulers on the time axis.

Equipment: PicoScope model 6402C and software version 6.12.9.2917.

Hi M@EAG,

If you could tell me your reason for wanting a specific segment to be plotted as a frequency spectrum, I may be able to submit this as a feature request for a new release of software.

Hello Gerry,
I have been making vibration measurements of a machine axis using an accelerometer and PicoScope. The axis undergoes various states of operation during the measuring. There is a particular segment of the time based signal, of which I would like to see the frequency spectrum. This segment can be identified easily within the entire signal. Trying to record the state alone in which this segment occurs is rather cumbersome.
At the moment my solution would be to export the entire signal as .csv to Excel. Then extrude the segment and evaluate it with a self programmed discrete Fourier transformation macro. Unfortunately no better software is available to me. Yes I am aware that excel has FFT capabilities. Nevertheless, this is an extremely time consuming procedure. Therefore this effort is only undertaken if deemed absolutely necessary. An integrated solution would make life so much easier. It wouldn't matter to me if several minutes were required to calculate the transformation.

This is not currently available in the software so will be added to the feature request list.

It will need some thought as the time span of the section, and the number of samples this covers, will have an effect upon the spectrum plot that can be produced. Therefore it is unlikely to be added in the short term.
