Macro Recorder not recording all steps

Post by terrypin »

I recorded what I thought would be a relatively simple macro:

1. Started with signals on Ch A and B as shown here:

2. Views > Add View
https://www.dropbox.com/s/quow3zb1md99x ... .jpg?raw=1
So far so good.

3. Right click in top window > Channels > Remove checkmark against B.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/z8ks41k53st8v ... .jpg?raw=1

4. But already it was apparent that something was wrong, as the the recorder had failed to record that step:

5. The same failure occurred with Ch B, so after stopping the macro it was plainly wrong:

Playing it from a single window therefore obviously failed.

Not all the functions are available to the Macro Recorder, as they are not supported by the automation interface that sits behind the function, in particular display related features. However the recommended approach to handle this situation would be to use settings and data files, creating the setup you require, and then load these with the Macro Recorder.

Thanks for that work-around. Tested OK here in Win 10 with the Demo program and will do so on shed XP PC later.

Perhaps the Help documentation should mention its limitations?

BTW, what's the consensus on the most useful way to display two signals?
- Coincident, i.e. no change
- Auto-arrange Axes
- Two windows

I will pass on the suggestion to the documentation team.

The choice for displaying signals is really personal preference and linked to the tests you are performing and what you are trying to see.
