Hello from New Zealand

Post by peteb2 »

Desperately searching for that 'right model DSO' for a home based fully professional Lab setup. Spent a career of 30yrs in Broadcast, from Radio and now TV (which is fast become more an Internet entity). Away from work i want to design and develop, restore and repair anything from old tube (valve) equipment to industrial controller peripheral or even helping someone out with their Maker project.

My old bashed around and unloved (until i gave it a home) 'Tek 2246A analogue 'scope is great for looking at that HiFi amplifier but i really do need something more capable to see the real dynamics of a circuit especially in the digital domain where i need to decode what's happening (been happening) and should happen....

Whether a Pico can do it i have to see...

Hi Pete,

We could certainly help you with your search as we have a range of high quality, extremely versatile, cost-effective PicoScopes that cover a huge range of applications. They are extremely versatile partly because of the post processing features, including some that are notably unique, (e.g. Resolution Enhancement Mode, see here: https://www.picotech.com/library/oscill ... nhancement, a Spectrum Analyser, which actually adds resolution enhancement in the frequency domain, see here: https://www.picotech.com/library/oscill ... m-analyzer, Advanced Triggering modes, including Logic Triggering, see here: https://www.picotech.com/library/oscill ... l-triggers, Automated multi-waveform measurements with statistics, such as Average, RMS, THD, IMD, see here: https://www.picotech.com/library/oscill ... asurements, Mask Limit Testing, see here: https://www.picotech.com/library/oscill ... asurements, Serial Protocol Deoding, see here: https://www.picotech.com/library/oscill ... l-analysis, and roll-your own functionality using our Math Channels, see here: https://www.picotech.com/library/oscill ... h-channels).

However, what more clearly sets our devices apart from the competition, is the fact that these features are available at no extra charge, as the software is completely free to download and use, and you already own the hardware processing power required for the software in the shape of your computer (which allows us to focus only on the hardware needed to capture the data and efficiently hand it over to the computer, reducing the costs) On top of that, we have an active community of users on forums such as this, who can also contribute to additional features for our PicoScopes by developing and sharing applications using our Software Development Kit (which covers a range of different programming environments for those new to software development up to highly experienced users) and this has resulted in applications like the Frequency Response Analysis through Bode Plots software (see here: https://bitbucket.org/hexamer/fra4picoscope/wiki/Home) developed by one of our users.

I didn't want to make this a pure marketing exercise, I just wanted to make sure you are aware of some of the features that can elude new customers, so those are just some of the reasons why it's worth your while investigating what in our range would be best for your requirements, now we just need to establish more clearly, exactly what those requirements are.

It sounds like you are looking for a scope optimised for working with audio video radio, as well as industrial controls. Where I'm not sure of what you want is when you mention 'looking at what's happening in the Digital Domain' which could be anything form basic logic state analysis, through Serial Decoding, to transaction analysis through bus snooping, etc. So what I can tell you is that we have ideally suited PicoScopes (e.g. low noise high resolution for audio), but what I need to ask from you is, could you tell us a bit more about exactly what Digital domain analysis you need to do (what are you likely to be analyzing), and what bit rates are likely to be involved.

Regards,
