real time measuring with picoscope

Post by Guest »

hi,

I am planning to run an application in which I would need to record and process a voltage log, in mV-Range
Due to its automation, the recording and processing should be a standalone process which should be executed by a signal coming from a PLC and finishes with a "pass" or "fail" signal on one output port.
The whole process should not take longer that 2-3 seconds, and the sampling rate should be at least 200kHz.
This process will be carried out on an automated production line, which means that I would like to program the device via PC and then put it on the line, as - as mentioned above - a standalone device activated by PLC.
Could it be possible to use a PicoScope-Product for that?

Hi this can only be achieved in block mode, with one or two of our products (3205 and 3206, 0.5MS and 1MS respectively)

Block modes uses the memory of the scope to try and sample at the desired rate, so at 200MS/s for a PicoScope 3206, which can go up to 1Mega Sample, you will get a time of 5 seconds. All the other scopes(excluding the 5000 series) do not have enough buffer memory to be able to do this.

The 5000 series scopes, when the data logging aspect is added, will be able to go on for much longer due to the deep memory (32MS and 128MS).

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

sounds good to me...

the questions which still remain unanswered is whether you can start the process and read the output via PLC....

Hi sorry forgot to answer that part. Yes you can do this, you can choose to trigger on a particular channel. So if you have the output of the PLC going into one of the input channels, you can trigger on this and it will start capturing the data.
