ADC11/12 as Oscilloscope

Post by Davidss »

The initial question sounds daft, and perhaps the others are as well, but as it's been a while since I used the ADC11/12 (parallel connected) ...
Can I actually use the ADC 11/12 as an oscilloscope?
I mean, Picoscope software appears to run with the ADC, but you classify the ADC as a Data Logger (and that is what I bought it for).

Assuming the answer is at least a qualified Yes:
I see a quoted sample rate of 10 kS/s, shared across all channels.
Does kS/s mean 1000 samples per second?
If so, as I'm being asked to monitor two channels, this means 5kS/s for each channel. Yes?
What relevance / limitations is this imposing on the signals being monitored?
Presumably I won't see any changes if the duration of the change is less than a certain time (A), nor will I see at all accurately signals above a certain frequency (B).
Would you care to put numbers against A and B?

Thanks.

Hello David,

The ADC11 is not an oscilloscope. The quoted sampling rate is for block mode sampling.

In block mode and two channels, your sampling interval would be (A)200uSec. You would also need to add the sample refresh time to this if you are considering continuous monitoring of a (B)500Hz signal.

Best regards,
Michael
