Postby optotest » Wed Aug 30, 2006 9:25 pm

Do the following:
1) Pico Scope is active
2) Continously acquire data by any means
3) Turn off PicScope ps3424
4) Computer without fail blue-screens

Any ideas?

Hi

Thank you for your post.

When you say "turn off PS3424" how do you do this? Do you mean taking the USB lead out of the back of it?

I will try this sequence out to see what I find but I need a bit more information first so that I can recreate it accurately.

Best Regards
Sarah

Blue Screen

A repeatable scenario is to have the Picoscope is on a Belkin hub - we turn the power off to the hub where the pSCope is on. = blue screen.
Same scenario without the pScope - no blue screen.

Hello Optotest,

I hope your development is going well.

Our USB powered devices such as the 3224 and 3424 source their power from the USB ports. They will draw upto 500mA on startup. Powered USB hubs provide both a number of ports and power for usb devices. If you pull the power from a powered hub, the switiching side will still work but any connected device will run on severely reduced power. Input devices may survive this but powered devices, such as our scopes, will not.

The general rule for USB devices is give them as much power as they require. The USB architecture will control this automatically. Use powered hubs with power supplies wherever possibly.

Best regards,
Michael
