I'm really sorry to have to say this, but had I known (it's of cource our fault, that we haven't researched deeper) that there are known and documented major bugs in your Linux-version that stay there for almost a year with no fix (and no update at all), we would have bought our scopes somewhere else. :(

The way it is we're unable to recommend you.

Hi Joghurt,

Sorry to hear that you are not happy with the experience with the PicoScope 6 Beta software on Linux platforms.

If you wish to discuss this further, please e-mail support@picotech.com and we would be happy to look into your concerns.

The software is a Beta version as we are still working towards feature parity with the Windows counterpart. There should be another release in the next few weeks.

Same issue as everyone else, the only additional information that I can offer is that running/stop functions correctly with analogue inputs only - but if I use a single MSO channel then picoscope cannot return to the running state unless 'home' is pressed.

(Ubuntu 16.04, PicoScope 3206MSO)

Are you able to suggest a timeframe for a new issue of picoscope for linux?

Hi dostr63,

There is a version under test with our Software Test team. Depending on the outcome, there may be a release fairly soon.

I agree with topic25561-30.html#p98621. Beta-Software means that it works out of the box with small exceptions. But this software doesn't work anytime out of the box.

Sorry, but I'm really disappointed.
We bought 30 picoscope for our scool!
You should change "beta" on https://www.picotech.com/downloads to "at the moment not working"!

I am affected by this bug as well. I am running on fedora 26 on a brand new PC.

The following info may be useful:
Using wireshark I can capture the usb data sent to/from the device.
I then perform the following experiment:
-start the picoscope with 4 digital channels on
-activate serial decoding
-usually everything works at this point
-press the stop button
-the press start again. Usually nothing happens (this is the bug. It renders the software
barely useable)
-I notice in wireshark that the picoscope software does not send any usb requests at
this point.

I can provide detailed logs if needed.

PS. I also noticed that when the problem occurs, and I switch to spectral view,
data is appearing again. Switching back to digital view still has digital view frozen.
Switching a few times between spectral view, persistant mode, and signal view makes
all screens freeze.

As others have asked: when will the new linux software be available?
The hardware is great but without useable software it is just a box...

Hi deeptho,

Please could you e-mail the logs to support@picotech.com and advise which PicoScope model you are using?

If you have a trace.xml file as well that might be helpful.

Our Software Test team should be testing a new build soon so there may well be a new release in the near future.

I have sent you a message with additional information (capture files).

In the mean time I found something interesting. Switching a few times
between spectral and signal mode can cause this problem as well:
at some point no signal appears, but spectrum still works.

At this point, when in spectral view, if I add a secondary view "scope"
the live signal appears in this view and it is updated.

The opposite, i.e., adding a secondary spectral view to the the signal view,
has both views frozen.

Playing around some more with switching between spectral/signal view,
eventually all views (primary + secondary) freeze.

Hi deeptho,

I have responded via your e-mail support ticket.

A new version is currently in test with our Software Test Team, so all being well, should be available soon.

Hello everyone,

I just received my new picoscope 2204A and I've runned into the exact same problem. My system is:

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (KDE Neon)
Intel i7-2600K
Nvidia driver version 375.66-0ubuntu0.16.04.1
Picoscope version 6.11.13-4r3
Picomono version 2.10.8-1r02

Trigger is set to none. Like it was said before, the scope works exactly two times:

start picoscope, it is running
stop
start, it start acquiring
stop
start: it won't work. The blue samples on screen disappears.

BUT.. not always. Sometimes it works correctly.

Hi,
I encounter the same problem with my 2207B.
My system is a Fedora 24 x64 with C2D Processor.
I found a way to make it a little more usable though. As already stated, the home button resets the Problem.
If one wishes to measure something, adjust everything correctly, then save the current settings as user default settings. When you now hit the home button, the scope restarts using the settings you just saved. This way I was able to use the Serial Decoding function at least for my needs.

Hi,

We have a new beta version for Linux available - please see the release notes here for further information.

Initial testing has not shown this problem to occur, so please do update to this version and try it. If you do encounter the problem, please do post in this thread again and we would be happy to investigate further.
