TA189 minimum mA reading?

Post by jpasint »

Hi,

I am looking to find out what the minimum mA reading that the TA189 is capable of.
I would like to trace the current draw on a discharge cycle of a 3.7 volt 18650 battery.

The discharger will drop the load to a few mA as the battery voltage drops close to 3.2 volt stop point so I am wondering how low of a reading one could expect with the TA189.

Thanks in advance.

Joe

I received a reply from my question above but I do not see it in the forum here for some reason.
I understand now that the TA018 would be better for my needs.

Can I ask what the significant differences are and why there is such a big price difference between the TA189 and the TA018?

Again, thank you in advance.

Hello Joe,

What was the reason that TA018 was better than the TA189. I would say the TA018 would actual be worse, for low mA readings.

Accuracy-
TA189 ± 1% of reading ± 2 mA
TA018 ± 1.5% of reading ± 5 mA

The cost difference is due to the TA189 having better performance and accuracy.

If you are using one these clamps, I would wrap say 10 turns of the conductor around the clamp. Then divide the reading by the number of turns, this will give a better accuracy as you are measuring a higher current.

If you need better accuracy I would look buying one these to use with a scope or meter-

Hi Andrew and thanks for posting here.
Well, I received an email from a support rep. That is the reason for post above regarding the TA018.

The information you were given by the support rep was incorrect, which is why the post was deleted, he is a new member of the team and misunderstood the specifications. I have also removed the text from your email so as not to confuse others.
