Help, please - Problems with 6.11.6.33 on openSuse 13.2

Postby steeps » Tue Nov 10, 2015 2:46 pm

Hi

I'm having problems running v 6.11.6.33 on opensuse 13.2 - scope runs for a few minutes the bombs out. Anyone else had this and found a fix? Tried using newer version of mono, no change except that I had to use the 'demo' hardware as picoscope no longer enumerated the 2006A. Have tried both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports, again no change in problem.

Thanks
Terry

Re: Help, please - Problems with 6.11.6.33 on openSuse 13.2

Postby Hitesh » Thu Nov 12, 2015 4:59 pm

Hi Terry,

A new version of the PicoScope 6 application for Linux (v 6.11.8.3) Beta has been released including an update to the libps2000a package.

Please update your software via the following commands:

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install picoscope

Please post back here if you are still encountering issues - any PicoScope settings files would be helpful if it is a reproducible error.

Hi,

I encountered exactly the same problems reported by Terry after upgrading OpenSuse from 13.1 to 13.2 (both 64 bit), including the same error messages on the console (the only difference is that I am using Gnome instead of KDE but still the symptoms are the same). Following the recommendations for the software update did not fix anything at all. I got the same error messages.
Very irritating: my 2207a used to work just fine under OpenSuse 13.1. Any idea as to what the origin of the Problem might be? Currently I have no clue whatsoever.

Best regards,
Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang,

Which version of Mono are you using?

There is also a new bug fixing release 6.11.8.11 which you can also try.

Re: Help, please - Problems with 6.11.6.33 on openSuse 13.2

Hi Hitesh,

I am currently using Mono 3.8.0 along with Picoscope 6.11.8.10 on a brand new installation of OpenSUSE 13.2 (64 bit), otherwise working perfectly.

Still picoscope shows the same problem: it is not running at all, just crashing after a few seconds. I have also been trying to install picoscope on OpenSUSE 13.1 (32 bit) on my laptop with exactly the same negative result, giving me identical error messages.
The problem is that the software used to work perfectly in some previous version. Unfortunately, I cannot remember which version this was. That very fact triggered my decision to buy the device in the first place...(I don't do Windows).

Any chance to get a previous, potentially more stable, version of picoscope?

The last error message in the screen dump, while starting the program from the console (segmentation fault), might hint at an error somewhere in the software, libraries etc., e. g., a "dangling" pointer, a NULL pointer or something along those lines....(?)
Also, there seems to be a problem with GTK+ (libgtk)?

Any other idea?

Thanks for any hint,
Wolfgang

P.S.: here is what I get:

Hi johe_dk,

Please refer to this post.

Apologies, the version number for the latest PicoScope 6 for Linux software was incorrect - it should be 6.11.8.10.

Hitesh

Hi out there,

being quite frustrated after many weeks of trying getting picoscope 6.11.8.10 to work under openSUSE 13.2 and 13.1 with absolutely no success whatsoever (always getting the the same error messages, see this thread), I decided to take ultimate measures:

...trying to install picoscope 6.11.8.10 under Windows XP (SP3), uhh... -,)

guess what I got:

It does not work at all.

I have been able to install the program without any difficulties but picoscope 6 is not able to find the device. Needless to mention that all other devices (printer an so on) connected to the computer via USB 2.0 are working flawlessly. On occasions, the program manages to find the device but sends a message that no data transfer is possible and someone (who?) is supposed to to check the USB cable (goes on for ever). Clearly, that has been done numerous times (USB connectivity checking, I mean).

Just for the records:
I have been choosing this product in the first place because it used to work under Linux (openSUSE 13.1 an 13.2) without any problems for several weeks.

Now, it turns out that the new version (?) is not working at all, neither under Windows nor under LInux (admittedly with different 'error patterns').

AGAIN: is there any previous version available that can be considered 'stable'?

Or: do I have to throw a 560 € - device into the trash can (it is a 2207A) just because the software is not working at all?

I would certainly appreciate if somebody could give me a hit as to how to proceed with more attempts to resolve the problem.

Thanks,
Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang,

Could you please send the following information to support@picotech.com and we will look to provide further support as there may be a hardware issue:

1. The trace.xml file from the last PicoScope 6 session on Windows - refer to section 3 of the PicoScope 6 Self-Help Guide on where to locate this.

2. Whether the device is present in the Windows Device Manager when it is connected to the PC.

Is the Windows XP SP3 PC fully up to date in terms of Windows updates?

Regards,
Hitesh

Hi Hitesh,

many thanks for your answer. In fact, in the meantime I managed to get PicoScope 6 running now under Windows XP SP3, just by connecting the 2207A to a different USB port (rear). Should have read the "PicoScope 6 for Windows Self-Help Guide" earlier ;-)
Anyway, the software seems to be running reliably now.
Unfortunately, this does not seem to be the case under Linux (openSUSE 13.2, 64 bit and 13.1, 32 bit). The software still crashes without any warning after some seconds or minutes in a very irreproducible manner (using the same USB port as with Windows). So - if anybody has an idea...?
As I already mentioned: "I don't do Windows" but running the software under Windows XP in a virtual machine (Oracle VM Virtual Box) is an acceptable compromise for the time being.

Regards,
Wolfgang
