Cable length TC-08

Post by KP »

Hi,
Planning to buy a TC-08, but will need a quite long cable (50- 60meters) between the logger and my PC. Is it possible to drop the baudrate on the serial model and use a longer cable, or is it better to use the USB model and a signal repeater to be able to use longer cables. Thanks.

Hi

Thank you for your post.

With the serial TC-08 the main consideration is not so much the baud rate but rather that the TC-08 draws it's power down the serial cable. Therefore extending it too far usually leads to a loss in power and thus it may not work. There could also be signal degredation over such a distance.

Again with the USB version it needs to be able to draw the power from the computer. Usually it would be very difficult to extend to up to 50 or 60m and you would need to have powered hubs for the TC-08.

I would not recommend a direct connection to the TC-08 but instead you could use a serial one and a modem as this is possible if you power the TC-08 externally. You could then try a lower baud rate and direct connection if you wish but you would need to power the unit externally. We can supply diagrams for how to do this.

Hope this helps

Best Regards
