ADC-40/42: do they measure current?

Post by stuartrobinson »

a) Can I use the ADC-40/42 PC-based oscilloscopes for measuring current (up to about 5V 1A)?
b) Do I need to buy probes too? If so, which would you recommend?
Many thanks in advance

Hi

Thank you for your post.

You could use the ADC-40/42 to measure current, but only by first converting it to a voltage. So you would need to use a shunt resistor.

For bigger currents you could use a current clamp, however for the size you are looking at, the shunt resistor would be fine.

Hope this helps

Thanks Sarah,
Can the PP218 current clamp be used with the ADC-40 or does it need to have a BNC connector to be compatible?

Hi Stuart

Thank you for post.

The PP218 can be used with the ADC-40 however as you say it needs some kind of adaptor to give a BNC interface. The other, easier option, is to use the PP264 which is the same spec clamp but with a BNC connector.

Hope this helps
