Why is 5444B scope not compatible with automotive s/w?

Post by araasch »

I work on digital designs mostly, and have a 5444B that supports working on microcontroller designs.

However, I'd like to be able to diagnose problems on my aging vehicles as opposed to letting the local garage use the shotgun diagnostic procedure to repair them.

The 5444B appears to have adequate signal capture capability to acquire the signals, especially in dual or single channel modes, so why does the automotive software not support their use?

It is hard to justify the cost of an automotive scope for personal use.

Thanks,

The automotive scopes have a higher input range, +/-100V, and input protection, +/-200V, that is why the software is locked to these devices.

With extreme care you could use the 5444B for automotive work using the standard T&M software but there would be an increased risk of damaging the unit.
