Re: Beta Release of PicoScope for Linux

Post by youngman »

It works on my Ubuntu 14.04 64bit with both 2203 and 5203.
Great!
Thanks a lot!

btw, the message like this
(PicoScope.GTK:29170): GLib-CRITICAL **: Source ID xxxxxx was not found when attempting to remove it
is displayed continuously in the terminal. it that ok?

It doesn't matter to me anyway.

Hi Hiroshi,

It seems the problem with continuous logging of this message has been introduced with new version of glib (which is being used in Ubuntu 14.04). Well, some say that glib has been actually fixed to properly report this error and all other applications are written wrong ;) We'll have look if we can track down the cause of this in our code.

Unfortunately Ubuntu 14.04 suffers from another glitch, that stops you from using workaround - PicoScope6 application shortcut. It is not searchable after the install; somehow system menu is not updated with it.

Simple one-liner to run once:

Code: Select all

sudo touch /usr/share/applications/picoscope.desktop
Should make PicoScope6 icon being visible on applications list. You can click it to start the application and all unwanted logs would not be visible ;)

I have a 5442A - using Debian Wheezy (with latest software) - I bought the picoscope for I2C bus work etc but this does not show under Tools - is this feature not supported under Linux - if so a major problem as no Windoze machines post very old win 98 !

From an earlier post on the thread
greg wrote:The serial decoding user interface has not yet been implemented, although it is possible to load a .psdata/.pssettings file created in the windows version and run with those settings.
If you post a psdata file with the data we can change it to hopefully work for you

thanks - any idea on when it will be available (I know a question I hated when I wrote realtime software) - having retired I want to play with arduino + RaspberryPi peripherals but havn't yet received the peripheral chips - however I can't see how including you in any display/decode loop will help my workflow ? I understand that picoscope will not run under Wine - it's interesting that 30years ago when writing support software I learnt the hard way to avoid any maufactuer specific software - it always bites sooner rather than later.

Hi All,

We have just produced another beta release for you. While the software is getting more and more close to windows version, following new Linux features are worth to mention:
  • More options available under Tools->Preferences - you can change more settings now
  • Support for multiple languages - it won't detect you language automatically though - you need to change it via Tools->Preferences
  • Splash screen on startup
  • Measurements in spectrum mode improved
Note on serial decoding - we are getting closer on getting this feature being available. What has been added so far is ability to read psdata files with serial decoding waveforms. So if you save files from windows version including setting for serial decoding it should be processed correctly in Linux.

Also some users reported crashes upon startup on Fedora distribution, same were noted while using XFCE as desktop manager. This problem seems to be intermittent and more likely linked to version of libgdiplus library used on the system. We are looking into finding exact reason for the crashes, leading to ultimate solution.

Hi, I have tried saving the psdata files from the windows version, but although it processed correctly in Linux (or rather it has no errors saying lack of data etc), there is no decoded data table shown. It just shows a label unerneath the data stream which says RS232/UART - A.

I have tried using the windowed zoom on the data stream, as there is currently no X magnifier on the linux version, but it just shows the word "Data" inside the packets.

Can you post your windows psdata file and we will check it on our systems here.

New release has been just uploaded to the repository. This time it is focused on providing support for data loggers from PL1000 series and UsbDrDaq. The drivers packages are called respectively libpl1000 and libusbdrdaq.

Hi, I have a 2206A since friday. It installs and works like a charm on Linux Mint 17 Mate 64Bit, except one thing: saving traces.

If I want to save a trace, picoscope freezes.
There is no error message in the console output (except the glibc error mentioned above...)

hi voodoosound,

This has been reproduced in Ubuntu 14.04 based distros. We have now uploaded another release to the repository with a fix.

There is another version available now. It brings dearly awaited feature - log scale axis to the spectrum mode. Also few important fixes were implemented, like crash on start up for PS5444 devices.

Problem under OpenSuse 13.1

Post by lohan »

First thanks for any potential help!
After having run a previous version under OpenSuse 13.1 I noted to my dismay that the new version does not work.
Apparently there is a problem with mono:

libpng warning: iCCP: cHRM chunk does not match sRGB
