Low output voltage AWG Picoscope 6400

Post by hmaarrfk »

Hello,

I have a Picoscope 6403D and I'm trying to use the AWG. Unfortunately, the output seems to be +- 0.04V instead of +- 0.5V.

Also, the output appears wavy if you zoom into it.

Any clue as to what might be happening?

I've attached the output as seen from AWG attached to channel A.

Thank you,

Can you post a psdata file File->SaveWaveform, we can then run this on a device here.

Are you connecting with a standard BNC to BNC cable between the generator and channel A?

Hi Martyn,

Thank you for your reply.
I forgot to check the forums for a while.

The connection is indeed a BNC to BNC connection.

It seems hard to reproduce the problem. It comes and goes.

I did find a temporary fix though.

If you change the amplitude of the signal, to 2V, (changing it from the default of 1V to 1.1V or 0.9V or even 1.5V doesn't fix the problem), the output is well behaved again. Once the output is well behaved, I can bring it back down to whatever I want.

I used what I think is the minimum number of clicks to obtain the figure attached.

The problem also occurs if you try to use the programming interface provided through the dll.

Let me know if you need any additional information.

Which version of Picoscope software are you using, Help->About and post the text, and if possible post a psdata file when the problem occurs and we can take a look at the settings.

Hi Martyn,

In the screenshot I had earlier, the version of the software appeared.

I've tried it again with a newer version of the software, mainly:

PicoScope® 6 - PC Oscilloscope software version: 6.7.40.3
Copyright © 1995-2013, Pico Technology Ltd

Model: PicoScope 6403
Serial Number: AP225/021
USB Version: 2.0
Calibration Date: Tuesday, March 22, 2011
Hardware Version: 1 1
Driver Version: 1.2.1.121
Firmware Version: 1.1.5.0 / 1.1.25.0

And initially, the waveform looks like what the file 0001 has.

After taking the time to write this post, maybe 2-5 minutes to ensure I had everything in order. The signal generator went through a phases of instability (the waveform's amplitude was really acting up) until it started to output the desired waveform, shown in the file 0002.

The files are too big to upload here, so I've uploaded them to dropbox.com

I hope this helps.

Can you verify this with the Release Candidate of the software from http://www.picotech.com/software.html. Changes have been made to the AWG section of the driver, although we haven't been able to replicate your fault to verify the fix.
