State of the Linux Application/Drivers

Post by shutdown »

Hello,

i'm quite happy with the features of my Picoscope 3405B, the only thing
which is bugging me is to reboot into windows just to use my osciloscope.

I read some relevant threads in this forum and multiple solutions where proposed:
A) Using Picoscope 5 with Wine. Has Anyone got this running with PicoScope 6?
I assume that this is required for my osciloscope.

B) Using QPicoscope.Nice software, but the new driver 3000a is not supported.

C) Waiting for a Linux solution from Picotech. There were multiple threads were
employee from Picotech were advertising jobs for a GTK project. Is there an
estimate if/when this will be finished?

I'm so curious about this because I would just invest time and add the support
for the new drivers scheme to QPicoscope.

We are actively working on a rewrite of the 3000A series driver to add support for the 3207B USB3 scope, and address some issues that have been reported with the original version.

In parallel we are looking at producing a version of Picoscope that will run on Linux but this is still at an early stage.

Hello!
I suppose this the correct thread for appending my question...

I am thinking of purchasing a PS5000 or PS6000 device because I'm impressed of picoscopes' capabilities and think they would fit very well into my education project which is in general one-shot capturing of different signals and processing them in Matlab running on a 64-bit OpenSUSE machine.

To make up my mind I would like to know whether a PS5000 or PS6000 would be compatible with the operating system and allow access from matlab (I have seen that in general, API/SDK is also accessible from within matlab).

Since I see many new version announcements on this forum, am I right supposing that this list is not up-to-date
http://www.picotech.com/support/kb/PicoScopeSDK-kb247 ?

Here http://www.picotech.com/linux.html I see that I can install libps5000a for all devices listed here http://www.picotech.com/picoscope5000.html. On the other hand, in the drop-down menu at the bottom of the page, I see that Linux drivers are not available for 52xx and 54xx devices. What is the actual and official state?

Also, I would like to know whether the AWG of ps5000B devices could be accessed under Linux.

Thanks in advance for the answers,
sanyok

Correct that is a legacy list, we are redesigning the website so not ammending certain sections of the current site

The list at the bottom is for legacy device support, please use libps5000a for your devices.
I would like to know whether the AWG of ps5000B devices could be accessed under Linux
The AWG is accessible through the driver, but not currently supported from within the Linux Picoscope 6 software.

Hi sanyok,

Regarding the use of the Linux drivers with MATLAB, this should be possible.

You can test the drivers after downloading them by calling the loadlibrary and libfunctionsview functions within MATLAB.

Don't forget to call unloadlibray afterwards :D

If you require any further assistance with this please reply back.

Thanks,

Hello Martyn, hello Hitesh!

It became a 6404D, got it some days ago.
Hitesh, the commands you mentioned work like a charm but they don't do anything productive. I tried to use some commands from this thread:
http://www.picotech.com/support/post383 ... lab#p38377

But my students and I get Matlab crashing when trying to call the OpenUnit function, just as it was described in that thread. Do we need any changes to the header file?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Sanyok,

Could you please create a new post in the MATLAB forum area and post the function calls you are using as well as indicating which version of MATLAB you are using.

You should be able to obtain the latest header file from the Linux driver repository or by downloading the Software Development Kit from http://www.picotech.com/software.html

Many thanks,
