I am attempting to set up a condition monitoring system for a shot blast machine in a steel fabrication plant. I decided to use 8 accelerometers to monitor the machine's vibration levels. I intend to use an ADC20 to log the data and transmit it to a pc for further processing such as FFT spectrum analysis. However, the machine is a fair distance (200-300m) from the maintenance department. I therefore want to know if it is possible to extend the range of the logger, perhaps by using some sort of usb extension (?), if possible. In addition, would this compromise my data in any way or would I need to increase the power source to overcome cable resistance, etc.

My boss insists that he does not want to use any wireless or bluetooth systems and that everything must be hard wired.

I'd appreciate any help.

Hi,
You cannot use an ADC-20 with accelerometers, the sample rate of the logger is far too slow You will need to use an IEPE oscilloscope:-

This two channel scope can accept input from any IEPE compliant accelerometer and it can also supply the necessary power to energise it.

You can connect the scope remotely to a PC over an Ethernet network if you use something like a "Belkin network USB hub":-
