Linux and PicoScope 3205B or 4227

Postby neurojanusz » Fri Nov 09, 2012 5:05 pm

Hello! We are planning to buy to our R&D lab an USB oscilloscope. There seems to be surprisingly few oscilloscope with linux support. Since PicoScope has at least some kind of vague promises towards linux I dare to ask will 3205B or 4227 and related software run on my standard Xubuntu without tears?

What exactly means "do not fully support every function in every product" in Linux Drivers page? Which functions in which products are not supported?

PS: Link to the linux forum in http://www.picotech.com/linux.html does not work. Not so nice.

Hi Joonas,

There is a 32-bit Linux driver available for the PicoScope 3205B (this can be downloaded from the Linux web page on our site or http://www.picotech.com/software.html

I believe drivers for the PicoScope 4000 series oscilloscopes were in the process of being developed but I can't advise of timescales.

In terms of functions, the function calls being used in the console example should be available. You can refer to the Programmer's Guide for the 3000a series (http://www.picotech.com/document/pdf/ps3000abpg.en-5.pdf) to see what other functions are available to use.

Thank you for informing us of the broken link - I have informed our Webmaster :)

Best wishes,
Hitesh

Doh.. so I would need to code my own oscilloscope GUI :(

I would really like to see PicoScope to initiate an OpenSource project to offer developing native interface for linux systems.
