Laptop power consumption while logging!

Post by wrelihan »

Hi

I am using an ADC-16 to log what is happening on a remote site that works of solar power. The problem is that the laptop consumes more power than the actual loads that I am monitoring. I have tried unsuccesfully to get the laptop in a low power mode, while still logging.
I notice that the hard drive light on the laptop flashes every 1sec. Is this a part of windows? I have been trying to get the laptop to switch of harddrive after a while and maybe store to usb jump drive.

Have somebody done something similar?

Any advice apreciated!

Hi,

Not sure if I understand correctly but are you saying that the ADC 16 is causing more power consumption out of your PC?

If so have you tried using a USB to serial converter and a powered USB hub?
