Simultaneous connect to Picoscope 3204A via PS3000a.dll

Postby bikertt » Wed Jun 13, 2012 9:07 am

Hello,

I figured out that it is not possible to connect the Picoscope 3204A to the PicoScope 6 -Software and to my own programmed Application at the same time. Is it really not possible or is it a failure by myself?

I use the API ps3000aOpenUnit of PS3000a.dll.

What I want to do ist the following:

Configure the PicoScope with the PicoScope 6 - Software and then read out the Measurements in my own Application.

It would be nice to have both Applications conneted at the same time so I can see the signal in the PicoScope 6 Software and the read values in my Software.

If it is not possible to connect simulaneously is this possible:
- Configure the PicoScope with the PicoScope 6 - Software
- Close the PicoScope 6 - Software
- Connect to PicoScope with my Application and read out the values. --> Will the configuration be the same as configured with the PicoScope 6 - Software when I read the values with my software?

Thank you very much, Michael

Hi Michael,

Unfortunately, it is not possible to access the device with two applications at the same time and it won't be possible to configure the device using PicoScope and then get the values out using your software due to the way the connection to the scope works - it would be reset after the device is closed then opened again.

I would suggest considering the use of the 'Save on Trigger' feature (see http://www.picoscope.tv/general/save-on-trigger.html), then saving the data files to a .txt or .csv format then using your application to read the data values from the resulting file.

Best wishes,
Hitesh
