Too much noise!

Post by M.Franquelo »

Hi,
I have a PicoScope 3204, win XP sp2

I find that even with the probe shorted my scope see a noise of about 8,10 mV pp

With this amount of noise, the scope is useless  Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for your help,
Manuel

This question was answered through our helpdesk system as below
You can easily see 5mV ptp noise as it is only an 8 bit scope with a least significant bit of 790uV. If you wish to see less noise you must reduce the bandwidth being measured, either by enabling a low pass filter or using some "Resolution Enhancement", both available in the channel options menu of PicoScope6.
