No Data?

Post by chrisdicko »

Hi,

This is the first time I have used the EnviroMon using the EL040 Current Monitoring kit.

I have had the unit powered on, and clamped round three phases (one clamp on each) for approx 3 weeks, and today removed the kit, and plugged the EnviroMon Data Logger in to my PC with the supplied serial cable.

I opened up the EnviroMon software, and straight away a window popped up and started downloading approx 45,000 readings.

Once this was complete the window disappeared, and just left the standard window open. I then went to View -> Graph, but there is no information there, and there is none in Summary or Spreadsheet either.

Can you possibly tell me what I am doing wrong? As it would be such a shame to loose the 3 weeks of data.

Thanks a lot
Chris

Hi Chris,

This looks to me like you may have logged into a different account on your computer that does not have full admin rights. Do you have multiple accounts on that computer?

Kind regards

Hi,

Yes we have multiple users on this computer, but I have access to install things etc.

I originally purchased the Enviromon Software about 8 weeks ago, but have only now wanted to use it properly.

Although when I first installed everything, I did conenct the current monitor up to the distribution board next to the computer for approx 2 hours to test things, and that is still showing on the graph. Which makes me think I am doing something wrong software realated? It shows two hours worth of monitoring on 30th Aug 2011 for two hours, but nothing after that.

Thanks a lot

HI what operating system are you running? Also try using the same account you initially programmed the logger on. You need to have full admin wrights really I don't know about having write access is enough.

Hi,

Yes it is the same user from when it was installed, which has full access.

We are using Windows XP, with all updates.

Could I be doing something wrong? There may not be anything actually wrong, just operator error ;)

The steps I used were:
1. Removed the Data Logger and Current Monitor from the distribution board where I am wanting to know the information.
2. Plugged the Data Logger in to the PC with the Serial cable
3. Opened EnviroMon Program, and a small window opened, which has File, Settings, View etc at the top
4. Automatically the program started to download the information, when this happened another small window opened and there was a count of approc 45,000 readings. The counter went from 0 to 45,000 after about 15 minutes, and the small window then closed and I was left with the original EnviroMon window.
5. I then went View -> Graph, but the downloaded information isn't there to view.

Any ideas from my description? I might be doing something wrong..........

Hi can you download this programme, then place it in the enviromon folder and run it. You can choose a jpeg or CSV file or both also give the file a name. It will then place a jpeg and/or csv file in the enviromon folder. Let me know if you the data is still empy then?

Hi,

Thanks for the help.

I've ran that program, and the data isn't there. The only data I can see is when I first tested the unit.

Here is the attached jpg:

I'm not sure what I am doing wrong, as the data downloaded from the logger, as it took ages to do so, and approx 45,000 readings is around 3 weeks worth of logging. I must be doing something wrong though?!

Can you do a quick idiots guide please of what I should be doing? Or is it as simple as downloading the data, then going to view the graph/spreadsheet??
I'm obviously still viewing old data from 30th Aug when I first had a play with the unit, then there should be no data from after 30th Aug to around the middles of Oct when I attached the logger to a distribution board, and left it there for 3 weeks until the beginning of November.

Cheers

Something is not quite right, all you have to do is start the software and then it will download the data and you can then view it. The only reason I can see it not downloading the data could be because of this admin rights issue, but you say you have full rights.

Do you have a question that pops up about the clock change?

If not then I have another suggestion, if you go to the enviromon folder, by default located under

c:\Program Files\Pico Technology\EnviroMon\

First of all exit the software
Change your view to be by details
Arrange by type
Are there any files with the file extension .rdg?
Create a copy of the .rdg file(s) by pasting into a new folder.
Delete the newest or last 2 or 3 .rdg files
Restart the software, it should now re download the data from the logger again.

Hi,

Apologise for the late reply, but I have been off work.

I have tried as you suggested, and deleted the last few .rdg files (and tried deleting them all), but when I plug the Data Logger in via the serial cable, then open the software, nothing downloads like it did originally.

Am I doing something wrong? Could the data have been erased some how?

Thanks a lot

Also, I have just looked in View -> Events, and have the following:

Could the Converter Failed be an issue? Although when I first removd the monitor/data logger from where I wanted to monitor and plugged it in, it definitely downloaded thousands of readings!

Thanks
