Pico Automotive

Jorge, Welcome to automotive scope diagnostics. It is often said that you need a 'starter scope' as a beginner and then upgrade later to a better one. I have never understood this. Seems a waste of time and money to me. No matter what you get, you will need to invest some time to learn to operate it...

Q1

I have not seen Pico on one of those yet.

Please let us know how it works out. My only concern would be the processor speed of only 800MHz.

XP Tablet

Not sure where you heard that. PicoScope works great on XP Tablet. I have a wide screen XP Tablet PC I use both PicoScope 5.xx and PicoScope 6.xx with no issues. There was a time with some versions of PicoScope 6.xx beta that there were problems with the XP Tablet OS but those have been resolved. To...

Technoman,

Yeah, but That's the closest thing that Pico has that I know of. 1000v rms cat III. This is also differential isolating. Maybe your other choice would be more suitable. Unless someone at Pico has something to add...

Are those high voltages you mention just the inductive kicks?

Probes

Technoman, Pico has this Differential oscilloscope probe X10/X100 near the bottom of this page: http://accessories.picotech.com/oscilloscope_probes.html We recommend this for our guys that do direct testing of Hybrid high voltage controls. Current Clamp

Yes, it will work. It will work with any lab scope. The 100mv/A and 10mv/A settings are the same as the Snap-On amp probe but it goes to 60A in the high range instead of 40A. You would be better off choosing the PP264 and getting a BNC to banana plug adapter though. The PP264 has superior shielding ...

Micro PC

Hi Rafael, This micro PC is smaller than the Pico box: http://www.mobiletechreview.com/sony_ux180/Sony-Vaio-UX180P.htm It's an excellent solution for portability. This is not a PDA but just slightly larger with full blown laptop PC capability. This is a real PC running XP pro that fits in the palm o...

cursors

Roger,

I can't help you with your crash issue but....

In PicoScope 5, it is easy to click on the screen and put up an unintended measurement cursor. Simply click on the cursor and hit the delete key on your keyboard to remove them.

OBD

PicoScope automotive scopes are PC based Digital Storage Oscilloscopes. They are not scanners and do not interface with the vehicle controller and read data or codes using OBD protocols. They collect and measure electrical signals directly. So, they are suitable for any vehicle that uses electricity...

dual time bases

I work with the automotive scopes and software. There may be a way to do what you want that I am unaware of. The automotive software is somewhat different. I mistakenly listed trigger as able to be different in the windows. I'll go to my corner now. :? This is only true for PicoScope 6 auto (beta). ...

dual time bases

I am not familiar with that Tektronix model but you can have two scope windows within PicoScope open at the same time. Each window can have completely different settings. Different triggers, timebase, voltage, filters, etc. The windows take turns sampling.

Hi Larry,

Let me offer an opposing point of view

The new capabilities of PicoScope 6 and the 3000 series automotive scopes allow for unprecedented high speed data capture over long periods of time. Here is an example:

Hi Michael, That picture was taken by Topper, a member of the Autonerdz Users Group. I still prefer the bigger screen. However, with full XP Pro, a fairly high display resolution, USB 2.0, fast processor and a fair amount of storage, these little things can do it. Plus with full wireless compatibili...
