Re: pico scope comparison

Would the pico scope do good on ignition waveforms? It does highly detailed secondary waveforms. Here is a live example of PIP SPOUT Secondary and Primary Current from a Ford TFI system: http://www.autonerdz.com/flash/snaps.html Would have to do single cylinders at a time? There is a secondary prob...

comparing

Hi Joe, Pico has a built in technical library, but it is not vehicle specific with test points and wiring diagrams. Pico does not do raster or superimposed views. However, it will show you more detail and resolution on any waveform than anything you have ever seen. Feel free to contact me if you hav...

Block

Emilio, Use Block Mode at the longer time bases. The capture is probably distorting due to a lack of sample rate from the switch to streaming mode at >100ms/div. Using block mode collects the data at full speed into the internal buffer and then transfers it to the PC in blocks. This allows the scope...

Automotive

It's good that you wait until you can get one of the automotive kits. That is what you need. The ADC 40 is not suited to automotive use for many reasons.

If you are in the US, feel free to contact me. I may be able to help.

Long Timebases

Also be sure you are using Block Mode at the longer time bases. This maintains the sample rate. The other modes will stream at a very slow sample rate, at time bases over 100ms/div, and only very slow signals can be captured accurately. Block mode Will use the internal buffer to capture and then tra...

Vertical

Hi Peter,

Just use the vertical multipliers at x1 and vertical scroll bars will appear. These are next to the AC/DC coupling selection at the top of the screen.

Hi Kevin: Here is a chart that shows the contents in automotive kits from Pico: http://www.picotech.com/auto/diagnostic-kits.html The Autonerdz kits have some more stuff in them in addition to this: http://www.autonerdz.com/picocontents.htm Oredering the scope alone has only the USB cable. There are...

Gee, I don't have PP226 or PP227 listed at all, so I can't help you there. The PP264 and 266 current probes both have nickel shielding coating the inside of the probe and long shielded BNC connector leads. They have superior noise resistance. The PP178 secondary probe is 10,000:1 In the US, I'm your...

USB

I'll just echo what Sarah said. I have use the 3423 on both USB 1.1 and 2.0. The sample rate is, of course, not affected but the screen updates more slowly. Not a big issue and you'll probably never notice unless you have experienced the USB 2.0 speed. Mine is nearly twice as fast under USB 2.0.

212/3 Req

Anything Pentium class that runs Windows 98SE or higher will work fine. Look for one with a parallel port. That's the long 25 pin printer port. This is the standard interface for the 212/3. You can go USB with them but have to purchase the optional adapter. The USB adapter has no performance advanta...

Rec PC

The 3423 is a USB 2.0 device. Therefore I suggest a more modern PC with USB 2.0. It needs to run Windows 98SE or higher. You don't need a huge memory, but, when it comes to PC memory, always get as much as you can afford for all round performance. USB 1.1 works fine though, but the data transfer is ...

Hi Dal, My PC USB ports are the same way. The Pico USB adapter is 4x2x1 inch. It's not a problem getting plugged in though. The USB adapter is designed to be placed between the ADC unit and the computer like this: Plug in the gray parallel cable supplied in the kit into the ADC and secure with the s...

Parallel problems

Hi Dal, Just wanted to add some of my experience with this issue. I've set these up on many different computers. Some Windows OS don't seem to care what the BIOS settings are. They can be SPP, EPP, ECP, Unidirectional, Bidirectional, or whatever and work just fine. However, I have not experienced th...

pcmcia

Hi Doug, We already had a conversation about this but I thought I would post here for the benefit of others. I had a tech support call yesterday from a new user with the 3423 automotive unit. He was having problems with the driver installation step using a Comp USA 2.0 pcmcia cardbus in an older lap...
