Real Sample Rate

Hi Amsterdam, The ADC 212/3, included in the automotive kit, has a maximum speed of 3 million samples per second not 3 Ks/sec. That being said, the maximum sample rate specification has very little to do with the actual sample rates you will experience, at common automotive time bases. I have a Fluk...

The Automotive Diagnostic Kit can be used on any vehicle. How you hook up will vary and what adapters are needed. It's a two channel lab scope and not an engine analyzer. There are no raster or superimposed views, nor does the software know how many cylinders there are. You choose what you wish to s...

Not long ago I got a new laptop running XP pro. PicoScope runs great on it but after reading this, I have noticed the same thing. I don't have a resource meter that I can find, on the system, but whenever I have PicoScope open, looking at some captures or something, the cooling fan soon comes on ful...

TQ, If you mean scanner functions, no. The Automotive Kit is a comprehensive lab scope kit with everything you need to do a wide range of tests on electrical signals and circuits. But it is not a scanner and does not interface with the vehicle ECU. You can, however, observe and measure all the ECU i...

Thanks, Mark. But lets say you were looking at a 900hz signal. What is the fastest rate it can sample and update? How many times per second is it recalculating that fequency? What are the best settings to optimize that speed? I am interested in this for catching drop outs in optical crank sensor sig...

Thanks, Mark. I'm using 5.09.5 I realized I was in Fast Block mode and did not have that option of frequency. In real tine continuous I was able to do it fine. Sampling interval bust be 1 second or greater for it to calculate. It seems to be sampling maybe a couple of times a second but not sure. Wh...

Graphing Frequency

Is there any way I can use PicoLog to graph frequency over time? I have been looking for a way to do this but no luck so far. Any suggestions? What paramaters can be graphed? I am using the ADC 212/3.

Re: Automotive Problem & Oscilloscope Question

I'm looking for a solution to a problem but have a couple of questions about oscilloscopes in general. I have an intermittent problem with an automotive ECU. While driving the ECU shutsdown and requires the ignition to recycle. Its not the power supply (I don't think), it may be cam / crank pickups...

Flex Plate Picture

Hi Carl, Good point. Just because the relationship is ok does not mean that the flex plate is not broken. Sometimes these can be broken and be jammed into a normal position. They will eventially slip and then may go back to the original position and remain there for a time. Of course, loading the en...

3.3 Crank And Cam

Thank you for mentioning that. Absolutely true. The scanner will not reveal this issue. This procedure is the same for the 3.5 belt driven engine as well. The signals are the same.

Examining Chrysler 3.3 Engines For Broken Flex Plates.

When using the ADC 212/3 in an automotive application, one of the most powerful features is the ability to capture long runs of data and then zooming in to examine the details. The Chrysler 3.3 engine is noted for breaking the flex plate around the crankshaft hub. This allows the flex plate to shift...
