Re: Suitable scope for VHF and UHF handheld FM transceivers?

Hi PeterPicoT,

I've replaced a previous post. Yes, that would not be a problem as it has a 500MHz bandwidth.

Re: does Picoscope understand encoder quadrature inputs?

Hi Brian, I'm assuming that the quadrature encoder gives you a bit pattern related to the absolute position of the shaft, in which case you can't display the position of the shaft, based upon the bit pattern, within the PicoScope 6 software (as there is no means to do custom decoding), but you can c...

Re: Picoscope saving multiple csv files for spectrum

Hi Dan, To answer your questions, Magnitude Display Mode in Spectrum Mode of our PicoScope 6 software will indeed give you 7 dissimilar wave traces. However, when selecting an Average Display Mode the waveform buffers will have been averaged, at each point in the waveform trace, to generate 1 sample...

Re: Frequency spectrum trailing average issue

Hi mstone31, Because of the large number of features that are available with our PicoScope 6 software, there are a considerably larger range of possible enhancements that we get as requests from our users, which means that it is just not possible to implement them all. So, we have to prioritize the ...

Re: Picoscope saving multiple csv files for spectrum

Hi Dan, The reasoning behind the implementation of Discrete Transformation, and the resulting benefits and drawbacks of transforms and methods can involve a large volume of background material, so it's sometimes difficult to avoid inadvertently developing areas of misunderstanding/misinterpretation ...

Re: 2204A effective AWG resolution

Hi picothar, I have verified what you are seeing. Originally our 2204 and 2205 PicoScopes only had 8-bit resolution in the Signal Generator, but our newer 2204A and 2205A PicoScopes have updated hardware capable of 12-bit resolution in the Sig Gen. It appears that our software wasn't updated to refl...

Re: Viewing Saved Files

Hi hrsnblm, You may be able to align the starts or trigger points of 2 different captures on 2 different Scopes but, unfortunately, because the sample clocks are likely to be different, the traces would drift out of sync, and when, and by how much they drift would vary for any pair of scopes (introd...

Re: Picoscope saving multiple csv files for spectrum

Hi Dan, By default, PicoScope 6 is set up to capture 32 waveforms when you use a trigger Mode other than Single trigger in Scope Mode. It's also set up to capture 32 waveforms by default in Spectrum Mode (you can change how many are captured by going to the 'Tools->Preferences'menu option and alteri...

Re: Measuring millivolts in dirty electricity

Hi Juan,

When using Math Channels you can over-ride the automatic scaling and provide your own scaling. So if you have performed a calculation and you expect the results to be up to 200 mV AC then you can specify that and the scale will be expanded to only show up to 200 mV of data.

Re: Viewing Saved Files

Hi hrsnblm,

You can only work with one set of data in PicoScope 6. If you want to visually compare 2 different sets of data you need to open another instance of PicoScope 6 to view it (you can do that in windows by just double clicking the 2nd psdata file).

Re: Spectrum Analyzer dBm doesn't correspond to Vp-p

Hi Dan, If you can’t access the dBm resistance value, an alternative solution might be to just work out what the voltage would be across the 50 ohm load to give you 1mW dissipation (which I calculate as 0.1414V), and use that as a reference voltage (the spectrum plot is a voltage plot rather than a ...

Re: Spectrum Analyzer dBm doesn't correspond to Vp-p

Hi Dan,

There's nothing wrong with the SA setup. It's your calculation for dBm.

Decibel ratios are calculated using RMS voltages, so the RMS of 100mV p-p is 35.35mV, which when divided by 0.7746V (the RMS voltage for 1mW dissipated into 600Ω) in a decibel ratio gives you -26.8dBm.

Here is the Custom Probe file for that current Probe (you can import into your Running instance of PicoScope 6 and then save to your data/setup file):

Re: Suitable scope for VHF and UHF handheld FM transceivers?

Hi PeterPicoT The only possible Real-Time Scope in our range that would cover the complete frequency range would be the PicoScope 6407 (see here: https://www.picotech.com/oscilloscope/6407/high-speed-digitizer), which would be able to capture a huge amount of data across any signal bandwidth up to 1...

Re: Adding time to data

Hi ashlynsmith, Assuming that (a) you were talking about PicoScope 6 and not PicoLog 5 or 6, and (b) you don't have too many data files to save, you can do this manually, by writing the value below each peak in the 'Notes' section, after measuring the Time interval of each peak using a Time Ruler. T...
