Re: Help deciding on PicoScope for FRA for Switch-Mode PSUs

Thank you Gerry. I think that probably sums up the issue I was having. The company purchased the 2204A on a whim, mostly on my recommendation to use it as a low frequency component/network analyzer. (At $130, they couldn't say no!) To be honest, I didn't even realize that its sample depth was only 8...

Re: Help deciding on PicoScope for FRA for Switch-Mode PSUs

Here was my original intended reply to bennog, which I was preparing while Gerry responded: Thank you. Understood about the memory depth. But, I guess I don't understand why the other posters recommend higher memory depth when most power supply control loops have cutoff frequencies usually not above...

Re: Help deciding on PicoScope for FRA for Switch-Mode PSUs

I hope to make a purchase this week, but am hoping someone can chime in with some feedback first.

Thanks.

Re: Help deciding on PicoScope for FRA for Switch-Mode PSUs

I found some good advice in this thread, searching the keyword "stability": https://www.picotech.com/support/search.php?st=0&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&keywords=stability&t=14311&sf=msgonly&ch=-1&start=15 Based on this feedback, it seems that the main priorities are resolution (ENOB) and memory depth. I don...

Help deciding on PicoScope for FRA for Switch-Mode PSUs

Hi all, Company I worked for bought a 2204A a while ago. Nice scope for the price. Recently, I attempted to do a frequency response analysis (gain/phase) of an offline AC-DC switch-mode control loop with 2204A and got non-sense results. I'm using a roughly Lm = 100mH (nom.) injection transformer. Th...

Re: Periodic bursts of noise with no BNC cables attached (2204A)

Hi Glubb, I opened a support case. Xujie recommended to try a different USB cable. (Seems like an "obvious" thing to do, but I had not done it.) The issue is gone when using any other USB A-to-B cable, other than the blue one shipped with the unit. Very strange as I have no idea what kind of interna...

Re: Periodic bursts of noise with no BNC cables attached (2204A)

Hi Martyn, I'm not exactly sure what you mean. I only took a screenshot once the noise bursts started to appear. For about 2 minutes, the trace was flat at 0V. For slow time-base like 1sec/div, the trigger is just rolling. We have 5 other bench top scopes without any noise sensitivity issues, all in...

Re: Periodic bursts of noise with no BNC cables attached (2204A)

Hello Martyn,

Please see the attached with 200mV vertical scale on both channels.

I will contact the support email.

Thanks,
Tim

Re: Periodic bursts of noise with no BNC cables attached (2204A)

Hi Benno, Thanks for replying. I've already tried with my phone powered down. The laptop does not have any sort of GSM/CDMA card. I've also already tried with WiFi switched off. I will try to short the inputs...I imagine the noise will go away. I put a benchtop scope across both inputs. The noise is...

Periodic bursts of noise with no BNC cables attached (2204A)

Hi all, Purchased our first Picoscope this week. We bought a 2204A to do some control loop measurements. I am seeing periodic bursts of noise on both channels, even with nothing connected to the inputs. The bursts appears at 1.0-1.2 second intervals, are about 50-100ms long, and the content within t...
