2205A flashing red exclamation mark

Channel B of my 2205A keeps giving me a flashing red exclamation mark next to the axis even when I short the probe to the ground clip. I tried different probes but the probes work fine on channel A so the problem seems related to channel B. Is something broken?

Re: Quality factor calculation

Hi Gerry, Thank you for your elaborate answer to my seemingly simple question. Great job. I did not know this turned out to be such a complicated measurement. I am looking forward to putting the quality factor measurement to the test.

Re: Quality factor calculation

Any update on de feature request for Q-factor measurement?

Re: Quality factor calculation

This is probably too complicated for math channels. Could this be added to the feature request list for the "Add measurement" toolbox?

Quality factor calculation

Is there a formula for math channels to calculate the quality factor of an oscillator?

Re: Short circuit through ground

Thanks Gerry,

The variac is off the table. For the DC power supply I will stick to series of 12 volt batteries. A little less variable but no connection to the mains.

Short circuit through ground

I want to use a variac with a rectifier bridge and capacitor as a variable DC source. Because a variac is not shielded from the mains I see a possible problem. Is it safe to connect my 2205A (x100 probe) to this source or do I risk creating a short circuit through the ground via the PC?

Re: Amplify AWG signal

After some online research I found that I need a MOSFET+driver but the circuitry is still unclear. I might skip de AWG and use an Arduino + two MOSFET driver modules. I will have to write the code for the waveforms but it's a lot cheaper than amplifying the AWG: flcelectronics.com/a600.html ($5.000+)

Re: Amplify AWG signal

Yes, only for square waves: -on off +on. (Voltage set by DC-PSU) Let's keep it as simple as possible.

Re: Amplify AWG signal

Thank you bennog for your reply. I tried your suggestion with a standard audio amplifier to see how it would perform. It did not do well. Even at low frequencies (<1kHz) the square waves lose their sharp edges and become distorted sine waves. Tube amplifiers might be more suitable but the cost and t...

Amplify AWG signal

I recently bought the 2205A scope. It works fine but I bumped into a limitation of the AWG. The output voltage range is ±2V. For my application i need a square wave of a least ±50V. Can you recommend additional hardware or suggest electronic circuits how to amplify the square signal from the AWG?
