Pico 2200-Series USB streaming constraints

The official Specs for the 2204A and 2205A list this as only 1 MS/sec. Moving to the 2405A (adding 2 extra channels to the 2205A) bumps it to 5 MS/sec. Hmm. Once you hit the 2206,2207,2208B and 2406,2407,2408B, this jumps to the expected 31 MB/sec that a USB2 bus would impose. I'm curious what it is...

Re: Picoscope not delivering to specification??

Hi, Andreas. I do not understand why the USB transfer rate should be an issue. It's only an issue because PicoTech chooses to make it one. As Martyn wrote: The 5MS is an across the board setting so needs to be applicable at faster rates, allow for multiple buffers with minimum re arm time, and suppo...

I would think so. Each sample burst acquires only 10KS (20KB), and he has 4 ms before the next pulse fires. USB can transfer data a lot faster than 5 MB/sec.

Re: Decoding RS232/UART data as packets

I was hoping that the idle period would be the fastest to implement on the PicoScope side of things. I'm sure it would be, but Pico has a history of implementing more complete and flexible solutions than what is minimally required. So having a broader set of design criteria should be helpful, both ...

Re: Decoding RS232/UART data as packets

...all feedback on serial decoding is welcome. Serial decoding of data that is already packetized (CAN, Flex-ray, etc.) is comparatively easy. Handling arbitrary byte streams, and partitioning them properly into packets is harder, but is almost always significantly more useful than the raw byte str...

Re: Trigger based on "missing encoder pulses"?

In this mode when the trace is drawn live you can increase the memory to 100,000,000 samples. For most people thats so much data that you can capture the event, but the problem is then finding it in all that data . To find events in such large amounts of data one option is to plot the frequency or ...

That's what happens when you get pulled away in the middle of composing a post.

Someone quickly posts that they've solved their problem, before you get your suggestion out.

Ha ha.

Re: Setting measurement for whole numbers only

I just went back and looked again, and noticed SgtCajun's comment below his screen shot: "I would prefer the result to be 182 vs 181.6." I.e., he seems to be asking for rounding of display times in the cursor readout boxes . I missed that on first reading. Which is a lot different than labeling on t...

Re: Setting measurement for whole numbers only

When you drag the time cursors would you expect it to jump whole number to whole number, or would you expect a smooth movement to identify an exact point on the trace ? I would never expect time cursors to jump (be quantized), but always move smoothly to identify exact points on the trace. The only...

Re: Setting measurement for whole numbers only

Would you be able to provide some more information on why you require numbers without decimals, these are just visual cues on the screen. Martyn, I'd be happy to provide some input of my own on the subject. If they're "just visual cues", then they're not very good ones. Why? Because all the decimal...

That is an error on the specification page, it can only run at 1kS Do you think that when the official, published specs on the PicoTech web site are wrong ( by a factor of 10,000 ), that it would be worthwhile to correct them? [I see this is still incorrect, 8 days after it was acknowledged. But it...

Re: Fastest way of capuring data

In this case by changing the settings of the scope, because the extra memory depth allows you to do so, it is possible to overcome any perceived limitations in trigger re arm times. Thanks. But there are two significant problems with those statements. The first is that the limitations in trigger re...

Thanks for confirming that the additional issues I raised are actual limitations in PS6, like the ones that Steven raised. And not just oversights on my part.

Good to hear they are being looked at, for the future.

Re: Multiple Protocol Analysis (and SPI deficiency)

Thanks, Martyn. That would be a major and most welcome improvement. I will suggest to the development team that a single table view, possibly with colour coding related to the channels, would be a positive addition to the software. I especially like the color-coding idea. That avoids a need to add a...
