Re: Use dual channel scope to measure amplifier gain?

Thank you. If I had been smart enough to first turn on the Maths Channel then I would have been able to select it.

Anyway, the idea works.

Re: Use dual channel scope to measure amplifier gain?

"Bump" is sometimes used on forums to bring an old, unanswered thread up to the top, in case it has been overlooked or forgotten. It is "bumped" to the top. My question is how do I : "do a measurement on channel 3 for DC average"? Measurements > Add Measurement only offers channels A or B. Thank you...

Re: Use dual channel scope to measure amplifier gain?

Cool.

Okay, I created the maths channel, but how do I : "do a measurement on channel 3 for DC average"?

Measurements > Add Measurement only offers channels A or B.

Re: Use dual channel scope to measure amplifier gain?

Yes, that is accurate. (rms output signal) / (rms input signal).

Also useful would be 20 * log(output/input) for gain in dB.

Not a worry -- it is easy to do by hand. Thank you for your response. 8)

Use dual channel scope to measure amplifier gain?

Can a dual-channel oscilloscope, such as the 3206, be used to measure an audio amplifier's voltage gain? With a sine wave signal connected to the amplifier's input and the 'scope's channel A input, and with the scope's channel B input connected to the amplifier's output, we have all the data necessa...

Okay, Pico -- it's clear that my issue is not due to my computer being funky. This appears to be a more widespread problem.

I can't speak for the other guys, but I have installed the new dll and it does not fix the problem.

Please see attached screenshot. There is no special order of events needed to trigger a crash as long as the timebase is 200ms or slower. But here's an example: One scope window displayed. Set TB to 200ms/div. Watch only channel A display, no channel B even though it is also on. Set TB to 1s/div and...

Sorry - I wish I had better news for you, but this version behaves exactly like the previous one. PS is unusable with timebases of 200ms or slower.

Sorry -- it's still buggy, no change. When running at 200ms or slower, it only shows channel A, it still crashes when any settings are changed, and ps32.exe can't be relaunched until the process is terminated, and Task Manager can't terminate it, the computer needs to be rebooted. Since the fix seem...

Hi, It's not a dual-core, it's a cheap and cheerful Dell Dimension B110 http://tinyurl.com/2pn4ux Please re-read my post. The 99% CPU usage occurs after psw32.exe crashes and an attempt is made to re-launch PS. In that condition, PS does not launch completely, it stays on the splash screen, and stay...

Two more tests 1. Removed the Nvidia card and went back to standard integrated card, single monitor. At 100ms/div timebase, Channels A and B both displayed. Selected 200ms timebase and only Channel B displayed. Tried turning Ch B off, and psw32.exe crashed. 2. Restarted computer. Installed 5.16.2 so...

Thanks, Ziko - it's early in the morning here and I'll get on to some of your suggestions a bit later in the day. I wanted to add that I just added a second video card to this computer, an Nvidia GeForce FX5500, so we could run two monitors. The new card took over as Primary monitor, and the integra...

Thanks, Alan -- I quite understand: proprietary is proprietary. I work on a lot of old-school equipment, like tube guitar amps, that have high DC voltages and am used to scopes that were built to handle those voltages. Just switching over to newer USB scopes now and am trying to get familiar with th...
