Re: VMware Player & Workstation problems

Hi Martyn, The host OS is Linux/Kubuntu 13.04 (x64) and is kept up to date. Virtual Box is at 4.2.16 and is the 64bit version, VMWorkstation is 9.0.2 The VM is Windows 7 SP1 (32bit) and is also fully patched. It's a minimal setup with just the picoscope software and the Qt/mingw suite installed. Paul

Re: VMware Player & Workstation problems

Is anyone also looking into the issue that PicoScope doesn't work under virtual machines (VirtualBox & VMWare Player/Workstation)?

Re: VMware Player & Workstation problems

I've tried using the current release 6.7.25.5 and the 6.7.28.7 and neither work. You get the 'scope working for a few seconds, but by the time you've configured PicoScope to the settings needed for the job it hangs up. If you do manage to get the 'scope set up in time and try to save an image then i...

VMware Player & Workstation problems

The current versions of PicoScope 6 (normal & RC) don't seem to work with VirtualBox, VMWare Player & VMWare Workstation. Has anyone else had any luck with these (specifically Workstation)?

It used to work under VMPlayer, but not VirtualBox. Now it seems to be dead on all types of VM.

Re: Linux drvier for PicoScope 3206A/B ?

Hi Martyn,

Thanks to trying to look into the problem. I guess Linux support is pretty much stalled until you manage to fill the role. I'd look into it on a consultancy basis as I suggested previously, but I'm not interested in a permanent position.

Merry Christmas

Re: Linux drvier for PicoScope 3206A/B ?

I'm having one of my occasional re-visits to the picoscope/linux thing as I still want to get this working properly under linux. The drivers/sample code (PS3000Acon) seg-faults under Ubuntu/Kubuntu 12.04 & 12.10. Anyone else experiencing this? Stock code straight out of the tgz file, the "usbtest" r...

Re: Linux drvier for PicoScope 3206A/B ?

Is there any movement on the 64bit drivers? Or any work looking into why neither the linux drivers (32bit) nor the Windows drivers work on virtual machines running on VirtualBox Both of these issues are stopping me developing applications for my 'scope, and stopping me investing in more equipment. I...

Re: Virtual Machines and PicoScope

If it's any help I too have had problems getting my picoscope (3206B) running in a VM. The picoscope software seems to have problems in VirtualBox but does work reasonably well in VMPlayer. It's a bit of a shame that we have to run a VM purely for the 'scope.

Re: 64bit Linux drivers for 3000A/B series

Oooh, didn't know I could do that. It works! Ok it's not ideal as I can't recompile everything 32bit, so proper 64bit drivers and libraries would be a nicer option, but I think I can get away with building a server applet to do the interfacing and get "real" application to talk to it over TCP/IP. As...

Re: 64bit Linux drivers for 3000A/B series

Hi Martyn,

The driver seems to go in ok but I can build the console app as it complains that the libraries aren't compatible. libps3000a and libusb_pico-1.0 are both built for i386 machines and it needs x86-64.

Were your tests built on for 64bit, or were they compiled on a 32bit machine?

Re: 64bit Linux drivers for 3000A/B series

So what are the timescales on this? Months? Years? I'm quite disappointed at the level of Linux support for picotech devices. When I bought my 'scope I was specifically looking out for a device which could be used on my machines. This was over a year ago and still we're waiting. I think that the sco...

64bit Linux drivers for 3000A/B series

Is there any progress on 64bit Linux drivers for the 3000A/B series 'scopes? I've a 3206B and all the machines I could connect it to are 64bit. It's a bit sad having to run a virtual machine just to talk to my PicoScope

Thanks

Paul
