PicoScope 3204 & USB 2.0 problems

Post by Steven Wong »

Hi,

I have a PicoScope 3204 and whenever I plug it into my laptop, the message "Hi-speed USB Device Plugged into non-HI-SPEED USB Hub" appears. I do not have problem with other USB 2.0 products like my DVD drives and hubs which works fine on my laptop.

I have also tried the scope on 3-4 Dell desktops (supporting USB 2.0 and had no issues with other USB 2.0 devices) and the same error message appears.

All machines tested has WinXP Pro with SP1, SP1a and SP2. The PicoScope software is R5.11.06 beta. The R5.10 have the have the same problem as well.

Also, it seems to hang quite often as well esp when using the Oscilloscope program. Kindly advise. Thanks!!!

P.S Weird findings... When I put a intermediate generic USB 2.0 Hub between the USB port on my laptop and the PicoScope, it works fine and winXP does not throw up the error message. However, that is quite a strange setup to be working with.

Hi

This problem is just down to the way that the scope communicates when it is first connected.

If you have plugged it into a USB2 port then when you open the software it will transmit as USB2. You can check this by going to Help | About.

Hope this helps

USB problem

Post by Eastern »

Having the same problem, with a slight twist, as Steven with my new 3206 scope.
In addition to getting the message that Steven gets, the PC tries to reinstall the USB driver s/w for the 3206 when I connect the scope directly to the PC USB port, as opposed to through the hub.
The PC has a USB 2.0 port. It is a IBM Thinkpad R51 with WinXP Pro.

I have version 5.11.6 of the Picoscope s/w.

Windows is also telling me that the Pico software has not been registered to be Windows compatible.

Hi

Thank you for your post.

The software has not been registered by Microsoft - this is not a problem, that message should be ignnored by clicking "continue anyway".

Once the PS3000 has been installed on both ports, does it continue to work?

Hope this helps,

Best Regards

Yes, picoscope works after it is installed on every "new" USB port it is plugged into. Isn't it strange that the PC senses "new hardware" for the same device that was earlier plugged into a different USB port address?

HI,

i have an pico 3004 and have the same problem :

"Hi-speed USB Device Plugged into non-HI-SPEED USB Hub". but this is not really a problem as long as the PicoScope works fine.

But ( :/ ) i have to launch 2 or 3 times the soft to get my PicoScope works , i usually get a message "no picoscope connected" and i have the Windows sound of an usb device "connected / disconected" , i have to plug unplug the picoscope and launch the soft several time to get i work.

Also sometime the soft freeze, the only thing i can do to solve the probleme ( exept reboot ) is to unplug the device to get it disconnected from the soft that allows me to shut it down. Otherwise my computer is totaly freezed and there is nothing i can do.

WinXP2, 1G ram , no problem on the computer hardware i guess ...

thank for your help.

A number of things to note.

Firstly I would remove your old software, download the latest software and install it. Once the software is installed plug the USB device and see if windows detects it, follow the hardware wizard to install the drivers. Just to be sure all is well check on device manager under universal serial bus controllers to see if the device has been installed. As Eastern points out, every time you plug the device into a different USB port it will have to reinstall the drivers.

Once this is done load your PicoScope software.

If you are still having problems please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards

Thk Ziko.

Well tried on another Computer, i do not have the software crash problem; i think it comes from Visual C++, ( yes its strange but since i installed it i got may crash ( from Mplab ( microchip software), and Picoscope ), that i did'nt have before , ( and when the soft crashes VC++ launch and want to debug the crashed soft)

I still need to plug unplug the device to make it work, but as soon as it works everything is fine.

Also i have another question, I never plug the power supply, i use the USB Bus to supply the picoscope , is that a problem ?

( the power supply i got with the picoscope do not work ).
Anyway i am very happy with the picoscope 3204 ;)

Ah you doing some PIC programming!

Anyways you should not have to plug and unplug the device to get it to work, the power supply is not needed, it is only there to try and minimise ground loop problems.

If you are having this problem on more then 1 PC then it may be a hardware problem, if your product is within the 2 year warranty period then you can return the product to us and we can repair it free of charge.

If you wish to proceed with this please email as at support@picotech.com

Kind regards
