Picoscope 2204A & Windows 8.1 "Check USB Cable"

Post by dreaquil »

Hi,

Whenever I plug my Picoscope into my laptop it works for about 2 mins and then Windows makes a sound as if a usb device were disconnected and I get the Check USB cable error. In order to remedy this, I have to unplug and replug the device. I have turned off the USB suspend setting from the power management and this still happens. :(

Hi dreaquil,

Which version of PicoScope 6 are you using?

Are there any other devices connected to the USB ports on the PC?

If possible, please could you wait for 1 minute after the message appears, then close the software. Then, please locate the trace.xml file (see section 3 of the PicoScope 6 Self-Help Guide http://www.picotech.com/document/pdf/pi ... uide-1.pdf) and send this to support@picotech.com along with a data or settings file for your setup.

Hi Sil_ver55,

Please ensure that the Windows 8 and 10 PCs are fully up to date.

When the issue next occurs, please close the PicoScope 6 software and then locate the trace.xml file (see section 3 of the PicoScope FAQ).

Hi Sil_ver55,

Is the PicoScope connected to a laptop or desktop PC and are you using the supplied blue USB cable?

If it is a desktop, is it connected to the front or rear USB ports?

You may wish to try the PicoScope 6.12.3 Beta software available from our Downloads page. There is no need to uninstall the stable PicoScope 6.11 version.

Hi Sil_ver55,

Hopefully, the test with the 6.12 Beta software will help to narrow down whether it is a hardware or software issue.

Hi Sil_ver55,

I've checked our Bug reporting system and I've not been able to find any known bugs specific to this situation.

It is possible that a change in the drivers, the software application or an OS update may have resolved the issue.

I just ran across this because I was searching for answers for the same issue.

I am running W10 with all updates, using the blue Picoscope cable, on my desktop USB3 port.

The scope SW keeps running, but every few minutes I get the "check USB cable" message.
PS 2204A and it was calibrated on 1/22/18. HW 17, Driver 3.0.0.570

I will send the trace.xml file separately.

I have seen the trace file, it is reporting a hardware error which will need discussing with the development team. Can you confirm that you have tried different ports on the PC, a different USB cable, and that the hardware drivers specifically for the USB hubs are up to date with those specified by the PC manufacturer.
