Please advise on the role of sample memory...

Post by alank2 »

Looking at two different models:

2206B vs 2208A:

50MHz/500MSa/32M of sample memory vs. 200MHz/1GSa/48k of sample memory.

Besides the obvious difference in bandwidth/sample rate, my question is what will be the effective difference in the picoscope software for the 32M vs 48k sample memory?

I know the 2208A is not a current model...

The extra memory will allow you to collect more data, either in a single buffer, or multiple buffers, which can be important when there is plenty happening with the signal in question. For example analysing data activity on a serial bus, where more memory would allow more data to be seen in a single capture.

So it really depends upon the data you wish to look at, and how you would like to use the scope.
