Begining on this forum

Post by Labbe »

Hello,
First I inform evrybody that I'm french, and you will be kind to excuse my poor english.
I like Pico instruments for their small size, light weight. I use them mainly for testing the behaviour of hydraulic actuators.
For a long time I've been using an ADC 11, then a Picolog 1216. Now I've bought a Picoscope 5442B which has the great advantage to handle either positive and negative signals, plus several useful functions to me like filtering.

I've no trouble with the instrument itself, but some to include the results in a Word report. They are of 2 kinds (for the moment).
1) Size of the graduations on the axis.
I make all test with a laptop with 1920*1080 graphic resolution. Then I retrieve the records on my PC with a 2560*1800 resolution. The result is that when I transfer a bitmap of the screen to Word document (copier l'ensemble de la fenêtre en tant qu'image), even in lanscape mode, the graduations are not readable (too small).

2) Text around the curves
It would be nice to be able to add text around the curves to show a particular detail. For the time being, I have to save as bitmap, then draw the required notes with a drawing soft, then include in my Word document. A little bit heavy

Anybody who can help me will be welcome

Hi Labbe,

Let me first of all welcome you to the forum, and just say that your English (or translation :-) ) is actually pretty good.

To answer your questions:
  • Have you tried saving the file as a psdata file then transferring that to your PC, so that you can take a screenshot of the data file on the PC? You should then be able to see the axes in full resolution.

Unfortunately there is no simple way to add text to a waveform in PicoScope 6. However, if you are going to take lots of you screenshots of the same waveform with different text displayed, you could create a duplicate of a waveform using a Math Channel, hide the original channel (to remove the axis), make the Math Channel name the text that you want to label it with, and then just click on the waveform to dispay the text and get your screenshot. In the example below I've also added a background colour to make the text more prominent.

Thanks Gerry for watching over my problems.
I'm going to apply your recommendation for the size of the axis and see what results.
Since my last post I've tried several things and discover what you say about the math channels, which are a very powerful tool. Anyway your solution is limited for what I want to do that you can see on the picture below (unfortunately I had to resize the picture to remain below 250 kB).

To achieve this, I first prepare my psdata file to have the curves and axis in the desired position, then copy a bitmap of the window and paste it to Inkscape where I can add any comments and symbols. The result may be copy-paste as bitmap to any other program, or saved as png file.
