Picoscope freezes with 10S/div setting

Post by petethehop »

I'm trying to record 2 channels of my 2204A in picoscope over a long period of time. I can record 1 Channel at 10S/div, but soon as I add channel B it all freezes up and I have to call on the help of Task Manager to end task (says picoscope is running). In trying many ways to set up - it always ends up freezing with 2 channels.
It will work however, if there is no triggering.
Windows 7 ultimate, 3G Ram, 32 bit.

Hi petethehop,

This is likely to be due to a driver issue which has been fixed.

Please try the PicoScope 6.12 Beta software which can be obtained from our Downloads page.

Just got round to installing PicoScope® 6 - PC Oscilloscope software version: 6.12.2.1871
Copyright © 1995-2016, Pico Technology Ltd.
It just won't register my device.
When I plugged in my 2204A Windows messaged installing device driver OK.
When I try and connect a device it doesn't appear in the list.

Note. I still have original version still installed

Any clues?

Hitesh

Hi,

Does the PicoScope 2204A appear in the Windows Device Manager as per section 1 of the PicoScope FAQ?

Are you using the supplied blue USB cable?

The trace.xml file (see section 3 of the document) corresponding to the session where the device was not detected might be useful.

I tried uninstalling both versions of Picoscope now. Still no joy
Here are the answers to your FAQs
1. PicoScope 6 does not recognize my device
1. Verify that the LED light is lit on the front of the oscilloscope. There should be a red light. YES
2. Check the USB cable (ensure it is the supplied Pico blue USB cable). Try a different USB port. YES, Blue working with earlier today with older version of picoscope
3. If using a device with an external power supply, disconnect and reconnect the power supply.NO
4. If using a desktop PC, consider using the rear USB ports.Worked in front before
5. If using multiple USB devices on a PC and the PicoScope does not have an external power supply, consider using a
powered USB hub. Just the 2204A
6. Device Manager – confirm that the device is listed either under Pico Technology Instruments (or Universal Serial
Bus controllers for older models such as the PicoScope 2205).Yes, under USB controllers
7. Confirm that the operating system is Windows XP (SP 3), Vista, 7, 8 or 10 (32 or 64-bit). 7, 32 bit
8. Verify that the .NET framework version is 2.0 (Windows XP) or 3.5 or later by going to the Add/Remove Programs
window in Control Panel and verifying which one is installed. Yes 4.6.1
9. Ensure all the latest Windows updates have been applied to the PC. Yes
10. Is the PC connected to the internet when installing or starting PicoScope 6? Yes

Can't find the trace.xml file at the moment.
Going to try the Beta V R6_12_3

Hi Pete,

Thank you for the information.

Please do post back here following your tests with the new Beta software. The trace file should be in the folder beginning with '26' in the following location:

C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Pico Technology\260a68f1-c314-451b-830f-0a5e01d65514

I uninstalled all Pico S/W & ran CC Cleaner. Re booted.
Downloaded latest version and all installed correctly.

Triggering is working without freezing at 10 & 20 S/div.

Larger font on ruler readout box is a marked bonus.

Thanks for you advice.

Hi Pete,

Good to hear that it is working.

Just to clarify, when you refer to 'Larger font on ruler readout box is a marked bonus.', are you referring to larger text for the time rulers?
