What unit would I buy to do thermal conductivity testing on automotive diodes?
This test involves a 5 microsecond, 100A pulse, followed by a 50mA signal by which the voltage drop can be seen on the scope. As the diode cools, the bias voltage will decrease to normal - a shift of only 30mV in some cases. The length of time it takes for the voltage to return to normal is an indication of how well the diode conducts heat away from the chip.
Do you make a unit that is suitably fast and precise?
May I suggest our 3224 12bit scope? This precision oscilloscope has a minimum voltage range of ±20mV. This scope also has a 20MHz bandwidth which would be fast enough for your test.
I looked at the scope you suggested.
It looks pretty good. Is that the best unit you have, or is it a trade off in specs? The 3206 is faster but uses only 8 bit. The AD216 is slower but uses 16 bits. I would like to buy one that is capable of more than what I barely need to do the job.
The 3223 and 3423 scopes are both automotive instruments. They have been designed with an extra voltage range: ±50V. This range will cover standard 24V systems found in commercial vehicles. It they are also the only instruments that work with the PicoScope Automotive software.
