Intel Skylake bug and Picoscope software

Post by derryuk »

Does the Intel Skylake bug affect Picoscope software?

I was looking at specs for a new system when I read about this bug. It only occurs in very specific cases but in one report FFTs were mentioned.

Hi derryuk,

Unfortunately, as this is a 3rd party hardware/firmware issue, and we have limited information at this point in time, there is no way to be 100% certain. However, this may be easily fixed as there appears to be a BIOS fix that is being distributed for it.

Just for reference though, the report that I read mentioning FFT's stated that this was in connection with Prime95 which has been used to 'Stress test' computers, and a particular exponent size of 14,942,209, has been found to cause the crash. While we have some comlpex calculations in our software, they are not designed to 'Stress test' computers, and certainly wouldn't be of that exponent size.
