Average calculation fails sometimes

Post by ziKarl »

Under certain circumstances a measurement with average-calculate fails.

Please try the following simple test-setup:

1. Signal-Generator: 1 kHz square, Sweep Mode active, Repeat, Stop frq 2 kHz, Increment 1.0.

2. chA: input from signal-generator, 200 us, Trigger chA Auto.

3. Settings/Measurement: chA, frequency, whole trace.

4. Settings/Measurement/Options: Statistics, Current Value, Average, Standard deviation, No of readings= 10000

Now - this is important - do the following: Settings/Options/OK (with or without doing any changes)

Start recording and after about 3 seconds stop recording

You can see that the average and std deviation calculation doesn't stop, it runs until the reading count is reached. Even if you remove the input from chA the calculation will not stop. Of course the values are not correct anymore after the stop.

But there is hope: repeat this experiment with Settings/Options/CANCEL - now it works as expected: average calculation stops - also when removing the input signal from chA.

You can repeat this error On/Off scenario as often as you like.

Best regards, Karl

I also see this problem often,
Restarting Picoscope fixes it, for awhile.

No reason for a restart - just use the sequence 'Settings/Options/Cancel'

Force the error with: 'Settings/Options/OK'
